PROCESS 01

From Sketch to Silhouette

The making of the Halter Fringe Maxi Dress, from the first line on paper to a silhouette designed to move.

A sketch is not a promise of what a garment will be. It is the first question.

For the Halter Fringe Maxi Dress, that question began with a single continuous line: how little structure could define the upper body while leaving the rest of the silhouette free to move? The halter, open waist and long fringe were considered together from the beginning, not as separate details, but as one proportion.

On paper, a line can feel effortless. On the body, every angle carries weight. The process was one of translating that initial clarity without losing it to construction.

02 · PROPORTION

The line has to hold.

The halter creates the frame. Its narrow geometry draws the eye upward, while the open waist interrupts the vertical line before the fringe extends it again.

Each adjustment changed the whole reading: where the waist opened, how the neckline sat, and where movement was allowed to begin.

I

Frame

The halter line establishes the silhouette with the minimum structure needed to feel deliberate.

II

Interruption

The open waist breaks the vertical rhythm, creating tension between exposure and control.

III

Extension

Fringe carries the drawn line beyond the fabric, letting movement complete the proportion.

The sketch begins the line. The body decides whether it is true.

Clarity is tested in motion.

The fitting is where a confident drawing becomes accountable. The line must sit correctly from every angle; the open sections must feel intentional rather than fragile; the fringe must release without pulling the structure out of place.

Small corrections matter. A shift at the neckline changes posture. A fraction more or less at the waist changes the balance between strength and exposure.

The aim was not to preserve the sketch literally. It was to preserve what made the sketch worth pursuing.

A drawn idea, made present.

The final silhouette keeps the economy of the first line while gaining what paper cannot show: weight, tension, rhythm and the response of the body.

That is the passage from sketch to silhouette. It is not a straight translation, but a sequence of decisions that makes the original point of view more precise.
